If you need 10 balls of lambswool (134m) 10x134m = 1340 m, and you want to knit with Phil Coton 3 (121m), then you must divide 1340 m by 121 m = 11.07, which means 12 balls.
So 10 balls of lambswool = 12 balls of Phil Coton 3 for the same pattern."},"productDetails":{"row":"rows","mesh":"sts","needleNumber":"Needle size and/or crochet hook","gauge":"Swatch","yarnLength":"Yardage","quantityNeeded":"Quantity needed","price":"from","lengthUnit":"m"},"errors":{"missingTechnicalData":"Missing technical data for this product","genericError":"An error occurred","missingRequiredFields":"Please fill in all required fields"}}},"common":{"yes":"Yes","no":"No","app":{"title":"title en"},"promoMessage":{"close":"Close promotional message","externalLink":"(opens in new tab)"},"seo":{"defaultDescription":"Phildar, the knitting specialist! ","title_2":"Calculate the equivalent number of balls","text_2":"

To replace a yarn indicated in a pattern with another, you must ensure the following points:

the needle size is identical
both gauges are identical
the seasonality of the yarns is identical, unless you wish to knit a summer pattern in a winter quality yarn or vice versa.

After validating these elements, you need to calculate the equivalent number of balls. Indeed, for the same weight, the yardage of the chosen ball may be different. For this, multiply the total yardage of your pattern and divide by the yardage of the new ball.

For example, if you need 10 balls of Lambswool (134m), you will need 134*10=1340 meters of yarn. If you replace the Lambswool with Cotton 3 (121 m), you will then need 1340/121=11.07, so 12 balls.

Therefore, 10 balls of Lambswool = 12 balls of Phil Cotton.

If you encounter any difficulties at this stage, please don't hesitate to contact our \"Knitting Advice\" Service

If the width corresponds to size A and the height to size B, you can follow the instructions for both sizes at the same time.
